The Kennebunk/Arundel Region has some of the most beautiful land in the United States. Rich evergreen and hardwood forests, sparkling rivers, sandy ocean beaches, and the bold, rocky Atlantic coast. It’s a beautiful place to live. It’s also a fragile environment under heavy development pressure.
The Kennebunk Land Trust, originally known as the Ramanascho Land Preservation Trust, was founded in 1972 to preserve and protect significant natural spaces in the Kennebunk/Arundel Region. As one of southern Maine’s oldest working land trusts, the Trust has preserved over 3,400 acres of forest, fields and waterways, including 1,600 acres of the Kennebunk Plains. Of these preserved lands, more than 300 acres are conservation easements managed for private landowners.
KLT works for you, your family and for future generations. By preserving the special natural identity of Kennebunk, Arundel and Lyman, the Trust ensures a legacy of environmental beauty where residents and visitors can replenish their souls, children can experience the joy of discovery, and animals and plants can live out their ancient cycles of life.
About our logo
The Kennebunk Land Trust logo was designed to represent the legacy of Ramanascho, the Sagamore Indian woman who deeded much of the Kennebunk region to the early settlers. It represents the importance of the Native American community in helping to establish Kennebunk, an Indian word meaning long-cut river bank. Our logo has been reviewed and approved by representatives from Maine’s Indian population.
