Board of Directors
The Kennebunk Land Trust Board of Directors are volunteers from the Kennebunk and Arundel communities who share expertise, commitment, and a mutual interest in preserving the natural beauty of our area. Each director is elected by the board for a three year term. A director can be re-elected for a consecutive additional three years.
Richard Barnes
Dick has lived in Maine since 1970, having moved here for the same reasons that so many others have - he was attracted to the quality of life and the close relationship that Mainers have had to land and to the natural environment. He has lived on an island in the Midcoast, in a small town in central Maine, and, since 1992, in the Kennebunks. Most of his career in Maine has been as an educator, having served as a teacher, a superintendent of schools, and as a professor and Dean of the College of Education at the University of Southern Maine. He has also served on and been chair of a half-dozen non-profit boards, including Old York Historical Society and the Maine Humanities Council. Having been a long-time supporter of land conservation both here and in the Downeast area, Dick is pleased to assume a more active role in support of the KLT, and he currently serves as Board Treasurer.
Stuart Bowen
Stuart and Lenora retired to Maine in 2004. He has always considered himself a Mainer through his many visits to his grandmother's cottage on Drake's Island. Numerous Maine vacations over his lifetime have made southern Maine his most comfortable place. The environment has always been his passion as shown by his several degrees in Environmental Engineering finishing with a Ph.D. Stuart lives in Kennebunk and is very pleased to be able to contribute to the long term conservation of the land for future generations. He feels that it is important to preserve now as open spaces rapidly disappear.
